New birth
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3
When golfer Bernard Langer heard about the new birth, he was amazed. "That night was the first time in my life that I heard I needed to be reborn. It didn't make any sense to me. Surely at the age of 28 I could not be born again? So at the end of the study I asked the teacher, Larry Moody, what he meant by "reborn".
He opened the Bible and showed me John 3:3 which reads, 'I tell you the truth, no-one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.' I thought I was a pretty good Christian, but I'd never heard this before. Larry went on to explain what it meant in practical terms. I was amazed to realize that the only way to have eternal life is through Jesus Christ."
Bernhard's life was never the same again after that. Let us pray that in 2007, many sportspeople will come to know Christ and let him change their lives on the sportsfield and off it.
