“Knowing Christ is the best thing that has ever happened to me, although winning the US Open was a pretty good second.”
Christmas
The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Luke 2:10-12
Christmas is nearly upon us. The world and his sister are looking forward to a nice break from work. Shame that you work in the world of sport. Nice break over Christmas, don't make me laugh. If you are a player or coach you might be training on Christmas Day. And the rest of you, even if you get Christmas day off, you are likely to be working pretty soon afterwards. The rest of the country may be on holiday but in the sport and leisure industry it can be one of your busiest periods.
In the midst of the busyness let's not lose sight of what Christmas is really all about. Christmas is not about wearing a Santa Claus hat, eating too many mince pies or trying to buy presents for relatives you don't really like and spending as little as you can on them.
Christmas is about Jesus. The angels'message can be summed up in three simple statements:
There is good news;
The good news is for everyone;
The good news starts by finding Jesus.
It is as much good news in 2006 as it was when the angels announced it to the shepherds over 2000 years ago. The whole Christmas story has the stamp of God. It changed human history forever. Nothing will be the same again. God became man. By believing in Jesus we can start a new life. We can be saved from judgment and from hell. What is more Jesus promises that he will never leave you.
Don't miss the real meaning of Christmas this year!
