The Law of the Lord

The law of the Lord is perfect Psalm 19:7

Where do you stand on technology to help referees apply the laws of the game? As you old-fashioned and think it should be left to the officials and recognize that sometimes they will get it wrong? Or do you think - like cricket's third umpire or rugby's video ref the officials should have the right to refer the tricky decision for a TV reply-aided decision?

In the Manchester United Portsmouth FA Cup tie in 2007, TV showed that ball had been over the goal-line before Pedro Mendez cleared it. The ref did not award the goal. The irony was that the same Pedro Mendez a season earlier had a shot - at the same Old Trafford goal - well over the line before Roy Carroll "saved" it. The goal was not awarded. Belated justice for Mendez?

God's laws do not need to be modernized. They do not need the help of the TV reply. They are perfect. The laws of a game exist to ensure a fair contest, giving both sides an equal chance. God's laws, according to this psalm are not only perfect but right, radiant, righteous, trustworthy, sure, more precious than gold, sweeter than honey. They make us wise, give us joy, give us light and promise us a reward. (Psalm 19:7-11)

Let us love God and his law and live by it in sport and in life.
