“Knowing Christ is the best thing that has ever happened to me, although winning the US Open was a pretty good second.”

Caddy Talk (The psychology of being a great golf caddy), Vicki Aitken and Daniel A Weigand, Dawvija Publishing, Milton Keynes, 2007

ISBN 978-0-955-58590-6

The book aims to inform the reader "how the science of psychology coincided with the experiences of expert caddies". The material is arranged in five chapters:

Introduction

Caddy Talk

Decision making

Barriers to effectiveness

Switching Off

followed by a helpful Conclusion chapter which summarizes the material.

There are also five fascinating transcribed interviews with caddies including Steve Williams who works for Tiger Woods. The interviews are given in full here but quotations from them are also integrated into the chapters to support the arguments.

The book is really interesting at several levels. It gives a unique insight into the world and role of the caddy. Equally the subject material and the interaction and decision making process of the player and caddy cannot fail to help any golfer become better.

It also informs you that in a round of golf lasting 4 hours, you will send 2 minutes hitting the ball, I hour preparing to hit the ball and 2 hours 58 minutes between shots. As Michael Caine would say, "Not a lot of people know that!"
