If I had to choose between my wife and my putter... well, I’d miss her.

Paul Azinger, London, Harper Collins, 1995
The book is the autobiography of a top American golfer, charting his journey through the different levels of golf. What makes the book compelling is his honest account of the terrible moment when he discovered that what appeared to be a routine sports injury was actually cancer. The book documents his journey through cancer treatment and return to golf.
He describes himself as “spiritually indifferent most of my life” But coming to a point where he could say: “I'm a Christian and I take my faith and its responsibilities very seriously. I like the little bumper sticker slogan ,I'm not perfect just forgiven’… I want to be a positive role model and maintain a consistent Christian testimony. I know that I'm on my way to heaven, not because of what I have said or done for Christ but because of what he has done for me” and “I had considered myself a believer in Jesus Christ for more than eight years and I was sincere in my faith. But it is one thing to believe in him and quite another to trust him completely with your life”.
Dealing with cancer and believing in God are interwoven through his story to a time when he says: “I began to consider that perhaps part of the reason God had allowed me to undergo my experience with cancer was so I could encourage and inspire other people who were fighting the disease”.
A good read.
