"I love the sense of satisfaction that I get when I’ve done a swimming workout or race, and know that I gave my whole being and heart to God in every moment of the swim. It’s the best worship I can offer him."

An exploratory investigation of athletes' perceptions of Christian prayer in sport. DR Czech, and KL Burke, International Journal of Sports Science and Coaching, 2002, 2 (1), Pp 49-56.
A study of 19 American student athletes’ (aged 19-23) perceptions of prayer. This is one of several – at least three - papers based on the study of the 19 student athletes.
Among interesting results was a view that ,“competitiveness, playing overly hard and aggressive, and wanting to win at all costs” are part of sports and that religious beliefs do not influence these attributes’.
This is the third paper which I have read - emanating from research on those 19 athletes -and I felt that this one added little to what was in the other two. (That is not a value judgement on this paper as I may have taken a different view had I read it first!)
