The book gives you everything you need to know about the World Cup
• How teams qualified;
• Rankings
• Meet the teams with a profile of each country;
• The story of past World Cups
• Fixtures and structure of the competition.
There are profiles of 10 players to look out for in the tournament. I particularly enjoyed the 8 magic moments, which recall some of the great moments from previous World Cups from Viv Richards’ innings in 1979 to Martin Guptill’s 237 not out in 2015
The account of the origins of the World Cup, the worries about calling it the World Cup and how it would relate to Test cricket is fascinating. There is a helpful explanation for the non-expert of issues including the implications of a day-night match, how the third (Television) umpire is used and the challenge of death bowling.
Imaginatively put together, the structure is quite different from the Women’s Football Official Book – no designing a template and sticking to it rigidly. An excellent book.
