Transforming Lives in Sport

Transforming Lives in Sport, Roger D Lipe, Cross Training Publishing, USA, 2006 (65 pages- A4 size) ISBN 1-929478-75-5

The book which has a subtitle of "A guide for Sport Chaplains and Sport Mentors", comes out of Roger's experience of years of working with student athletes in Southern Illinois University. The material is organized under 4 main headings - relationships, attitude, presence and strategies. Each section ends with questions to help you evaluate how you are doing

It is well organized, easy to follow and at all times very practical and challenging. The underlying question on every page is: is our desire to meet the needs of the athletes we are working with and to serve them - rather than use them, enhance our status by association with them etc?

There is practical advice on how to be a chaplain or sports mentor. There are pitfalls to avoid and many examples of good practice to follow. Roger draws on the wisdom and experience of other chaplains in a very helpful way.

If you work with performance orientated athletes/sportspeople at any age, you will benefit from reading this book
