“Knowing Christ is the best thing that has ever happened to me, although winning the US Open was a pretty good second.”

Alison Nicholas

Psalm 136

Give thanks

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good. His love endures forever Psalm 136:1

The phrase “His love endures forever” occurs 26 times in Psalm 136 but it is not a meaningless refrain as the evidence to support the assertion is presented throughout the Psalm. Israel claim that God’s love endures for ever because of creation, because God rescued them from Egypt, God led them through the wilderness.

In what ways doe we see evidence that His love endures forever? Here is my attempt.

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good - His love endures forever

He created man with an ability to play and enjoy sport - His love endures forever

He made us competitive - His love endures forever

He gave us people to play sport with and against - His love endures forever

He loves us whether we win or lose - His love endures forever

He forgives the officials when they make mistakes - His love endures forever

He forgives us when we blame the officials unfairly - His love endures forever

He meets our needs every day - His love endures forever

When the final whistle blows, he will take us to be with himself for ever - His love endures forever
