If I had to choose between my wife and my putter... well, I’d miss her.

Time for prayer

Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed Luke 5:16

We live in a world of activity and noise. Most of us live in cities. Often we switch on the TV when we wake up. The first thing we do as we get into the car is put on the radio or our music. And we never go far without our headset. Watch any sports team arrive for a game and the person with nothing attached to their ears is the odd one out!

Jesus’ life was not dominated by technology and gadgets but he was always surrounded by people. He learned the need to withdraw, to find time to be alone with God. Of course we can pray as we walk around, as we drive. Listening to Christian music can lead us into praise. However, taking time out to forget everything else and to concentrate on God is also important.

As an athlete you know all about discipline, letting nothing distract you from training. Conversations with colleagues are important but not if they distract you from getting your work done!

As you plan your week, work out when and where you can be alone to pray.
