“Knowing Christ is the best thing that has ever happened to me, although winning the US Open was a pretty good second.”

Alison Nicholas

Born again

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. John 3:3

When it comes to getting into the kingdom God, Nicodemus, you and I have a problem. If God cannot let me into his kingdom because as I am, I would spoil it. It is going to be a place of no tears – but I make people cry. It is a place of harmony – but I fall out with people. It is place of truth – but I lie.

“Sin is not what we think it is. It is not about going wrong on a few of God’s rules, but about going wrong in our whole relationship with God. You see, sin is when we set ourselves up as God, so that instead of living for his will, each of us is living for our own will. And the result is a world in conflict. Each of us has been wounded in the crossfire. But the fact is that each of us has fired our share of the bullets, too. In our world we are at war with one another because we are at war with God”.

However there is good news: “on the day that we all stand before God, those who have responded to Jesus today will ‘not be condemned’. They will not stand before God as his enemies, who cannot come in, but as old friends whom God will welcome home”. (Real Life Jesus, Mike Cain).

Like Nicodemus, we must be born again. And we can be. If we are, we have nothing to fear – not now and not ever! Now that puts sport, competition, winning and losing into perspective!
