"It matters a great deal who is going to win, but not at all who won"
Anti-climax
Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. 1 Kings 19:3Remember the story? Elijah had just won the gold medal on Mount Carmel, the contest between himself as God’s prophet and the prophets of Baal as to who could set the sacrifice alight. It was the greatest victory of his career. Then Queen Jezebel issues a threat against him and he is terrified and runs away.
Perhaps he was vulnerable because he had used up all his mental and emotional energy in the contest. He was exhausted and drained. Our God is very practical. The solution to Elijah’s problem was a good meal and a good sleep!! And the assurance of God’s presence and love.
The World Championships are over. All those hours of preparation, stress of competition, emotion of dealing with the outcome may still need to be processed. Don’t be surprised if you have a sense of anti-climax. Not to mention exhaustion.
Follow Elijah’s example: a good meal and a good sleep and the assurance of God’s presence and love.
